Inspire Me - Vintage Airplane Bedroom (Part 1)

Last week, my husband came downstairs from tucking in our children and said,
"We should probably buy 'that boy' (our 2 year old) a bed."
Why?"
"I just found him balancing on top of the side rails like a tightrope walker."

Gulp, I have been wanting to move this crazed boy into a bed, but have avoided it. I really don't want to deal with sleepless nights because he is tearing up his room, or our room, or the entire house for that matter. ( I tell ya, he is more destructive than a new puppy)

The fun part that I have been thinking about is a new "big boy" theme. I decided on vintage airplanes! He loves airplanes, most kids do, I think. And airplanes offer some really fun decorating and craft opportunities for me. So it's a win-win here people.

I have been collecting ideas, color schemes, and projects for a few weeks now and here are my faves.

I love the colors in this room

Love the propellers, but they are probably not in the budget,
which is about....hmmmmm......not much

Should I also incorporate some paper airplanes? (they do fit in the budget)

One or two model planes
(I will be using my 40% off Hobby Lobby coupon for these)

Where can I snag (or how can I make) vintage looking luggage tags?

Again, I like the colors and clean simplicity of this one.
But not that huge flag, not my thing.

I definitely want to make something with this image from Graphics Fairy

I could find more vintage airplane images and create a gallery wall.

I love this simple metal bed frame and something about this room just sucks me in

I could paint the bed frame a glossy red.

Map details are definitely in order and
I am totally making one of these!!!

A thrifted dresser redo is in my future...(this new one from Anthro is not)

Or I could try my hand with the chevron stripes
(and those handles rock)

Or I could paint stripes on the walls

Maybe some creative wall paper on the walls?
Could I use scrapbook paper in matching colors and theme?

What a cute idea for displaying vintage postcards or photos

These striped curtains are beautiful! There are cream colored panels in his room now,
maybe I could try my hand at painting them.

And my BIG project that I may tackle...the Pottery Barn airplane panels
The $299 price tag will not work for me, but I have seen a few diy copycats that look really good!

Where I am going is,

red, blue, and white color scheme

vintage touches

fun atmosphere without being too babyish-
I want this room to grow with him

unique accents

handmade authenticity

a feeling of cozy comfort

and most of all, easy upkeep! (remember he is messier than a new puppy)
