I know jealousy is a terrible quality,
however
I have been sweating all of the electrical and cable spool upcycles I have seen around blog town lately. I was so sad, because I have no access to them, never see them lying about, don't have any connection to big electrician or cable installers.
Well, lookee what I have sittin in my garage right now...
When we drove all my goodies up to
the shop, we noticed about 10 gigantic spools out back (along with about 59 pallets-Alli and I are a match made in crafting heaven).
Her lovely husband Cory has a secret connection and get as many spools and pallets as Alli wants, so he offered to load up a few more me in our truck.
YAY ME!
So as usual, when some new score lands in my lap I headed off to
pinterest and Google search to get inspired.
Hmmmmm, I can't wait to get started!
Hi Kim, well you certainly found a great deal of ideas for your wooden spools. I wonder which ones you will choose to try. They all looked pretty spiffy. I really liked the one used to store books/magazines. Thanks for sharing. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris

Love the coffee table one with the books under neith - very clever.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is also the white one with the books underneath... I totally pinned that! So jealous that you found these! (My husband won't let me bring things like these in the house. *pout*)

ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! I love the outdoor table with the burlap runner. Probably because it's the middle of winter and I'm dreaming sbout gorgeous outdoor weather!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do. I have been hiding a small wooden spool from my husband every time he cleans the garage. I am running out of time and need to use it soon!

I'm another whose favorite is the one with books underneath. The one made into an ottoman is giving me ideas, too.
ReplyDeleteA tip on where to find these--find out which of your local cable company's locations is where the installers park and work when they're not out installing. Find their dumpster. Go nuts choosing from dozens of these spools. If you want you can ask (there's usually a guy or two standing around) but they'll almost certainly look at you like you're crazy and tell you to help yourself. I've used these before (built a cat climbing tree that's now gone) and that's how we found them. DH used to work for the cable company so he knew where to get them.
I am so glad you posted this, I just got one and was thinking, how am I going to dress this thing up!! You came along just in time!

Oh, I want one! I can't wait to see what you come up with. I personally love them in an almost unaltered state, other than say a paint wash of some sort.
ReplyDeleteI may have to go on a scavenger hunt. There is a business up the road with stacks of pallets that I've been meaning to stop at. I want a few to experiment with.
Kim, you're a machine! Do you ever sleep. I'm dying to see what you do with those spools. Thanks so much for linking up to "Thriving On Thursdays" last week. We'd all love to see what you've been up to this week. Hope to see you again soon. (And PS. I can't keep up with your changing buttons but I look forward to seeing what you come up with each week! LOL xx)
